Glasgow Tourism Strategy

The Glasgow Tourism Strategy website articulates the vision for Glasgow to be “a leading destination in key markets offering a unique, dynamic and authentic experience through the quality of place, product and service differentiated through the strength of the brand, GLASGOW: Scotland with style”.  The Strategy has been developed as a result of extensive consultation and discussion lead by the Glasgow Tourism Strategy Steering Group (GTSSG) which includes Scottish Enterprise, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau (GCMB), VisitScotland and industry.   An Action Plan is now in place http://www.glasgowtourismstrategy.com/downloads.html to address the strategic objectives and targets set out in the Glasgow Tourism Strategy are:

• To strengthen the position of Glasgow as an international tourism destination.

• Attract an additional one million visitors by 2016.

• Deliver minimum 60% growth in tourist revenue with ambitions of achieving 80%.

• Grow tourism-related employment to 40,000 by 2016.

• Increase accommodation capacity by 3,000 premier hotel bedrooms by 2016.

The visitor facing website http://www.seeglasgow.com/ is managed by Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and an industry website (Glasgow Tourism Service Initiative) will be launched in May 2010.

Tourism in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley

VisitScotland publishes key tourism statistics for Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley, collated from the main tourism surveys including the International Passenger Survey and United Kingdom Tourism Survey.

The ‘Tourism in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley’ and ‘Tourism in the City of Glasgow’ factsheets outline the main tourism statistics for the area. A regional breakdown of the Scottish Accommodation Occupancy Survey shows monthly percentage occupancy in the hotel, guest house/bed and breakfast, self-catering and caravan and camping sectors. The Scottish Visitor Attraction Monitor shows the number of visitors attending attractions across the area.

Visitor Attraction Monitor

The Visitor Attraction Monitor is an annual report on the performance of Scotland's visitor attractions and is an important accompaniment to the monthly Visitor Attraction Barometer. Statistics on visits to attractions are provided by geographic area, category of attraction (eg. garden, distillery, museum), location (rural, urban, seaside), volume of visits and admission type (free versus paid).

Bite-sized chunks of the report covering different categories of visitor attractions are available to view online, along with the complete report.
