Visiting Friends and Relatives

The relative importance of visits to friends and relatives (VFR) trips has increased dramatically over the past decade. In 2007, VFR trips accounted for 30% of visits to the UK by overseas visitors along with 23% of spend, and contributed £3.6bn to the UK’s visitor economy.

VisitBritain’s monthly ‘Foresight’ publication includes a number of features on the VFR market. Topics include: the importance of visits to friends and relatives to UK tourism; the role of weddings, stag and hen weekends; the importance of Britain's ethnic diversity; trends in the number of British nationals living overseas who make return visits to the UK; and expatriates living in Spain.
